This page describes how to use the search facility on the Imagebank∞.

Basic search

To search the Imagebank∞ find a search box - on the header of all pages;

There are three elements to the search box. ~a) The first is the input box. Put in words you think will describe the image you want - see below for indexing guidelines if you want to see the sort of keywords, or tags, used in tagging the bank. Whether you use upper or lower case letters the results will be the same - the search is case insensitive. Don't both separating keywords with commas or whatever - just use a space between words. Don't use words like and, or, with - they won't be recognised.

1. The second is a radio button to select whether multiple words should be treated with an "and" or an "or" - if you select AND then words in the search box will all be required for an image to be returned. So, for example, typing background black cross and selecting AND will return pictures which include all three of the words background, black and cross - in other words, images suitable as a background for text, which also have black as a major color component, and have a cross. Selecting OR will give you any of the words. So typing background black cross and selecting OR will return images which contain any of the words backbround, black or cross in their tagging - which is a lot!.
2. The third is the button labelled "Search the Bank" - press on this when you've got the tags and AND/OR selections you want.

How to get the best out of the search

All images in the Imagebank∞ are tagged as follows;

• what they are suitable for - either background or foreground (or both)
• what use you can make of them - worship, talk, event, texture (or several of these)
• what the predominant color(s) is/are. This is intended to help you to quickly find images if you need to use a particular color scheme.
• the main category - seasons, people, nature, symbols, abstract
• specific tags to help you find what you want, describing the mood (e,g, peace, hope), objects in the image (e.g. fire, fish) and anything else which might help.

What the search returns

The search returns by default all images which match the search, in decreasing order of popularity (measured by number of views). Clicking on an image will either bring up the whole set of which the image is a part, or the image itself in the separate viewing and editing window.
